Dear Sir and W./Bro.,

I have the pleasure to inform you that the subject of Essay for the year 2006 for the award of the M.W.the Grand Master's Masonic Trophy is "FREEMASONRY AND CHARITY". The rules relating to the submission of Essay are given overleaf. This circular may be read in the Open Lodge and also this information be mentioned on the Lodge summons. The last date for receipt of entries is 31 st August 2006.

GRAND LODGE OF INDIA ESSAY COMPETITION - 2006

Subject:- "FREEMASONRY AND CHARITY"

The purpose of the competition is to encourage original thought and research on Masonic subjects on the part of Freemasons in India.

The Essay must be based on personal study and research of the competitor. The Essay must show evidence of original thought and skill as well as critical analysis.

The Rules of the Competition are as follows:-

1. The Competition is open to Freemasons who are members of daughter Lodges.

2. The Essay must be in English and must not exceed 3000 words.

3a. All Essays for the competition must be typed on foolscape paper on one side onlyin double spacing with a wide margin and with all pages fastened together.

3b. Four copies of Essay must be submitted under an assumed Pen name in order to preserve anonymity of the author from the Judges. The full name, name of Lodge of which he is a member and address of the competitor should be written on a separate sheet of paper and enclosed in a sealed envelope with the inscription - "ANNUAL ESSAY PRIZE COMPETITION - 2006 GRAND LODGE OF INDIA, NEW DELHI-110001."

4. Non -observance of the rules may result on the entry being disqualified.

5. All Essays must be sent to the Grand Secretary, Grand Lodge of India, Freemasons' HaIL Janpath, New Delhi-110001, so as to reach him not later than 31st August 2006. The envelope must be marked "Essay Prize Competition 2006".

6. The Essays will he adjudged by a panel orjudges appointed by M.W.the Grand Master. M.W.the Grand Master will be the Chairman or the Panel with a casting of vote and the decision of the judges shall be final. A Rolling Throphy will be awarded to the author of the best essay and his name will be inscribed on the trophy and the author wil lbe presented with the replica of the trophy.

7. The Grand Lodge of India reserves the right not to award the Trophy if none of the Essays submitted are considered of sufficiently high standard. Al lthe essays which are received will be property of Grand lodge of India which shall also have the copyright over them.

8. rthe neme of the winner of the compitetion will be announced and presentation of the Throphy and it's replica will be made to the winner of the compitetion at the next Annual Festival of tjhe Grand Lodge of India.

9. In addition to the Throphy which will be presented to the Author of the Essay adjudged as best, certificates of merit will also be awarded to those whose essays come to certain level of excellence.
