At a meeting of the four Regional Grand
Masters with M.W. the Grand Master it had been suggested
that Lodges having their own Temples/Freemasons Hall
may adopt a programme of "Open House" aimed
at not only reaching out to the public in dispelling
myths and misconceptions about Freemasonry but also
to propagate the message of Freemasonry. The modus operandi
of this concept of the "Open House" may be
as follows:-
-
The Lodge premises will be thrown
open to the public during specific hours on specified
days either once a month or once in two months
or at such other intervals as the Lodge may think
fit.
-
This information of the 'Open
House' must be made known to the public through
publicity by way of advertisement/banners etc.
-
The members of the public visiting
the Lodge are to be taken into the Temple, the
nature and purpose of Freemasonry explained to
them by Brethren competent to do so and appropriate
Masonic literature particularly the one titled
"Everything you wanted to know about Freemasonry"
be provided to them. The details of charitable
and social projects undertaken by the Lodge/Grand
Lodge and Regional Grand Lodge must also be highlighted.
-
Items of interest within the
premises such as portraits of Important persons,
Masonic Regalia etc. that are available in the
premises may be shown to the visitors.
-
A visitors book recording the
names and addresses of visitors alongwith their
comments and impressions are to be recorded in
the book.
-
Lodges which find this idea appealing
may do well to implement it. A report on such
an 'Open House', if conducted, may be sent to
the Grand Lodge.
