Dear Sir and Brother,


I have the-pleasure to infonn you that the subject of Essay for the year 2004, for the award of the M.W:the Grand Master's Masonic Trophy is "Masonic Symbolism". The rules relating to the submission of Essay are given overleaf. This circular may be read in the Open Lodge and also this information be mentioned on the Lodge summons. The last date for receipt of entries is 31st August 2004.

GRAND LODGE OF INDIA ESSAY COMPETITION - 2004

Subject:- Masonic Symbolism

The purpose of the competition is to encourage original thought and research on Masonic subjects onlhe part of Freemasons in India.

The Essay must be based on personal study and research of the competitor. The Essay must show evidence of original thought and skills as well as critical analysis.

The Rules of the Competition are as follows:-

1. The Competition is open to Freemasons who are members of daughter Lodges.

2. The Essay must be in English and must not exceed 3000 words.

3a. All Essays for the competition must be typed on foolscap paper on one side only in double spacing with a wide margin and with all pages fastened together.

3b. Four copies of Essay must be submitted under.an assumed Pen name in order to preserve anonymity of the author from the Judges. The full name, name of Lodge of which he " is a member and address of the competitor should be written on a separate sheet of paper and enclosed in a sealed envelope with the inscription -

"ANNUAL ESSAY PRIZE COMPETITION - 2004
GRAND-LODGE OF INDIA, NEW DELHI -11OOOl."

4. Non -observance of the rules may result on the entry being disqualified.

5. All Essays must be sent to the Grand Secretary, Grand Lodge of India, Freemasons' Hall, Janpath, New Delhi-I 1000 I, so as to reach him not later than 31 st August 2004.
The envelope must be marked "Essay Prize Competition 2004".

6. The EssayswiII be adjudged by a panel of~udges appointed by M.W.the Grand Master. M.W.the Grand Master will be the Chairman of the Panel with a casting of vote and the decision of the judges shall be final. A Rolling Trophy will be awarded to the author of the best essay and his name will be inscribed on the Trophy and the author will be presented with a replica of the Trophy.

7. The Grand Lodge of India reserves the right not to award the Trophy if none of the Essays submitted are considered of sufficiently high standard. All the essays which are received will be property of the Grand Lodge of India which shall also have copyright over them.

8. The name of the winner of the competition will be announced and presentation of the Trophy and its replica will be made to the winner of the competition at the next Annual Festival of the Grand Lodge of India.

9. In addition to the Trophy which will be presented to the author of the Essay adjudged as best, certificates of merit will also be awarded to those whose essays come to certain level of excellence.
