As you are aware of a great tragedy
has befal on the Northern states particularly in the
Jammu & Kashmir area consequent to the recent earthquake.
Many lives and properties have been lost.
The Masonic fraternity in India has
never been insensitive to such distress. In recent times
the fraternity has extended substantial relief when
an earthquake hit Gujarat and when the Tsunami caused
extensive damage in the Southern State. Similar assistance
is now required by the people affected by the latest
earthquake.
M.W. the Grand Master has announced
a grant of Rs.5 Lakhs from the Fund of Benevolence subject
to ratification by the Board of General Purposes as
also a grant of Rs.l Lakh from the Grand Master's Rupee
Club. This, however, is not enough.to meet the needs.
M.W. the Grand Master desires that
all Lodges, Chapters / Mark Lodges / RAM Lodges and
individual brethren must once again rise to the occasion
"and make a significant contribution in assisting
the distressed.
May I therefore appeal to your Lodge/Chapter/Mark Lodges
/ RAM Lodges and the members thereof to contribute generously
to the cause. Contributions may be sent to the Grand
Lodge of India Fund of Benevolence payable at New Delhi.
Benefit under Section BOG of the Income Tax is available
on such contribution.
All collections will be pooled and used for relief
through the Regional Grand Lodge of Northern India.
